New River Fly Fishing is owner-operated by veteran fly fishing guide Mike Smith, who has been fishing the New for over 30 years.  Besides guiding, Mike teaches college credit fly fishing courses and is a fly designer for Flymen Fishing Company.  He is also the author of the Angler's Guide series from UVA Press which includes Fishing the New River Valley: an Angler's Guide and Fishing Virginia's Highlands: an Angler's Guide. 

Over the years, we have appeared in numerous prominent national and regional publications (pictured here with King Montgomery and Lefty Kreh in Fly Fish America in 2009).  Mike is also a regular speaker at fly fishing shows throughout the east coast.
