Hello, welcome to the November edition of our newsletter!
November is a fantastic month to fish in the New River Valley! Our fall fishing season is now in full swing. With water temperatures dipping below 50 degrees last week, the smallmouth fishing has cooled off, but muskie action is heating up! The Smith River is providing good wading opportunities for brown trout as well. Also, our private trout water has been stocked and is in play for trophy rainbow trout.
Check out our website for more information.
Fishing Reports
Upper New River (above Claytor Lake): The New is currently running 1270 cfs at Allisonia. We’ve been seeing good numbers of muskie, like the one caught above on a recent outing. To book a trip, click here!
Lower New River (below Claytor Lake): The New is currently running just 1180 cfs at Radford. That means the water is low and gin clear, which can make it tough out there.
Smith River: The Smith is still running a at only 75 cfs below Philpott Dam, providing some good wading opportunities for both stocked and wild trout. Keep an eye out for BWO emergences as we get closer to Thanksgiving.
Private Trout Water: Anglers can expect to find trophy-sized rainbow trout that are eager to take a fly! We have limited availability during the holidays, so book now.
SPECIAL OFFER: Get 10% off any 2026 trip or lesson booked by December 31st. Full payment must be made at time of purchase. Call us to take advantage of this special offer!
Be sure to drop by our booth at the Virginia Fly Fishing & Wine Festival in January, where I’ll be giving a presentation on fly fishing for walleye and other species on the New River.
Now is an awesome time of year to fish in Southwest Virginia. We hope to see here real you soon!
